<strong>Name of Scholar: </strong>ONKARAGOUDA KAKADE<br><strong>Brief About Scholar: </strong>Dr.Onkaragouda Kakade is Professor and Founder Chairperson, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Akkamahadevi Women’s University, Vijayapura, Karnataka. Prior to joining Women’ University, Dr. Kakade, worked 18 years as a Journalist for Prajavani, a leading daily Newspaper in Karnataka. He is known for his journalistic writings on socio- economic issues concerning the poor, weaker sex, marginalized farmers and socially suppressed. He has been advocating gender and social equality to make a healthy and strong India a reality.

He has to his credit 90 Research Papers published in reputed International/National Journals and proceedings and has presented Research papers to 152 National and International Seminars. He has also published 22 books on various subjects. Dr.Kakade, during his career, as a journalist, he has published more than 5600 Special Articles-reports on Various subjects including Development Issues, Political Analysis, Election Coverage, Environment, Social Problems, Basic Infrastructures in Rural Areas, Women Empowerment, Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, Agriculture, Sports, Interviews with Politicians, Farmer leaders and different walks of life.

Dr. Kakade was awarded, Rural Development Media Fellowship Constituted by Rural Development Ministry, Govt. of India and during this fellowship period he has studied the Status of Rural Women in Karanataka. ‘An Evaluation study on status of Rural Women in Karnataka’ was an extensive research that gives a graphical explanation about the plight of women living in rural areas of Karnataka. Recently he has completed a research project entitled ‘Empowerment and Kannada Newspaper an analytical study’ sponsored by Karnataka Media Academy, Bangalore.

His Specializations- Media Research, Development Communication, Print Media, Reporting and Editing. Areas of interest: Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, Agriculture, Women Empowerment, Child Labour, Girl Child, Rural Education, Environment, Social Problems etc.
