Microsoft is beginning to test a newly created dashboard for the Xbox Series X starting today. Designed to improve the UI related elements for 4k configured displays, Xbox insiders will be receiving access to the new dashboard with the increased resolution today.
Microsoft’s Xbox testing team says “With today’s update, Alpha Skip-Ahead Insiders on Xbox Series X consoles connected to a 4K display can begin flighting an increased resolution UI. This change means Home, Guide, and other areas of the UI will be displayed in a higher native resolution for increased sharpness and text readability.”
Up until this new 4k dashboard was announced, Xbox series X consoles had been all the dashboard UI elements at 1080p. These changes for Home, Guide, and other parts of the dashboard from 1080p to Native 4k will bring a massive change to how the dashboard appears on 4k TVs.
Xbox testing team said “We have a new Xbox Update Preview coming to the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring. It’s important we note that some updates made in these preview OS builds include background improvements that ensure a quality and stable build for Xbox consoles.”
However, there is no information about HDR support being added to the Xbox as part of this new resolution bump, and whether these changes will also be coming to the Xbox series S. The smaller Xbox Series S is technically capable to output at 4k so it will be interesting to see whether Microsoft decides to bring these changes to the smaller console as well or not.
These new resolution changes to the Xbox dashboard comes just days after Microsoft starts testing a new night mode for the different Xbox consoles. With the help of these new changes, Xbox users will be able to dim their screens and control the controller’s LED brightness and even the Xbox power button.
Xbox users will begin getting these updates once they are done with the testing and will be able to get access by the year-end.
